7.31.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University women's cross country program inked Lakewood High School (Okla.) graduate Madeline Saunier for the 2009 season. "I am excited to add Maddy to our program," head cross country coach Jerald Lewis said. "She is the type of student-athlete that we need to help build our program. She will bring a tremendous work ethic and a great attitude with her. I am looking forward to her becoming part of MACU family." Saunier, 17, is a McAlester, Oklahoma native and the daughter of Randy and Mary Saunier. She was a two-sport athlete for the Lakewood High School Lions, lettering in basketball and track. As a senior in 2009, Saunier, was named to the Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletic Association (OCSAA) All-State basketball team. Also in 2009 she placed second in the 4 x 400 relay and the 4 x 800 relay at the OCSAA State Track Meet. As a freshman she place first in the mile and second in the 4x 400 at the OCSAA State TRack Meet. Saunier and the Lady Lion basketball team won their conference four straight seasons, winning a state title her freshman year in 2006. The Lady Evangel Cross Country team competed in their inaugural season in 2008. |
