11.14.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla. - Mid-America Christian University outside hitter, Christiane Costa was named First Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference. The junior setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, led MACU in kills with 297 on the year. She played in all 30 matches with 51 block assists and led the team in block solos with 16. The conference Most Valuable Player award went to Elissa Loynes from Lubbock Christian University. Lyones, a junior middle blocker from Kemah, Texas, was also named Hitter of the Year. Teammates Courtney Yonke (Libero of the Year) and Jordan Goings (Setter of the Year), as well as Coach of the Year Jennifer Lawrence gave LCU five of the superlative awards from the SAC. The other two belonged to Oklahoma Baptist with Tamy Leipelt earning Newcomer of the Year and Sabra Clark taking Freshman of the Year. Costa along with those five players were joined by Oklahoma City's Alex Benbrook and Xiaotang Ma, Southern Nazarene's Lindi Lebsock and Leslie Reipl, LCU's Kelsey Odell, Wayland Baptist's Anika Voight and John Brown's Shannon Proctor. The Second Team included Erin Didier and Amber Wilson of John Brown, Bailey Jones of Lubbock Christian, Chassie Hamilton and Casie Winker of Oklahoma Baptist, Samantha Ball and Shelbey Veselka of Oklahoma City, Erika Knowles and Taryn Steele of Southern Nazarene, and Kimberli Garger and Jennifer Wyatt of Wayland Baptist. |
