11.3.09 - The Mid-America Christian University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-13) decision to Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday evening at the Gaulke Activity Center. MACU won the first point in game one with a kill from Becca Anderson but SNU countered with six straight points. MACU closed the gap at 14-12 but were unable to catch the Crimson Storm. The Lady Evangels (9-19, 2-10 SAC) lost a narrow second set to the Crimson Storm (21-12, 6-6 SAC). The score was knotted 15 times throughout the match. The score was tied 10-10 when SNU out-scored MACU 7-3 giving them leverage. MACU rallied, adding four straight kills to make it a 17-17 game. The teams traded points until the score was 24-24. SNU's Leslie Riepl produced two straight aces to take the set. MACU tied the third set 3-3 before SNU grabbed hold of the set. On offense, the Storm racked up 41 kills to just 30 for MACU. Junior Christiane Costa was the only Evangel in double-digit kills with 12 kills, while adding 7 digs. Calle Solie was perfect on the attack with four kills, adding 22 assists and nine digs. The Lady Evangels are back in action on the road at Oklahoma City University on Thursday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
