10.7.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- In the second home Sooner Athletic Conference match of the year, the Mid-America Christian University volleyball team fell to Oklahoma City University in three sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-12) on Tuesday night. MACU fell to 7-3 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. The Stars improved to 7-13 on the year with a 3-2 conference record. Junior Christiane Costa led the Lady Evangels offense with seven kills. She also added seven digs. Freshman Becca Anderson added five kills on the evening. Taryn Walker had three kills and the only block of the night for MACU. Calle Solie had 17 assists in the match. MACU stayed close with OCU through much of the opening set, leading until the teams knotted it up 7-7. The Lady Evangels were able to tie the score four times before the Stars won 11 straight points to take the first set. The Lady Evangels traded points with OCU in the second set but the Stars were able to outlast MACU. The Lady Evangels trailed by only three (18-21) before the Stars won four straight points to take the second set. By the third set the Stars had gained momentum and held MACU to 12 points. The game was dedicated to breast cancer awareness with both squads wearing pink jerseys. The Lady Evangels raised over $1,300 for `Dig Pink,' a nation wide volleyball fundraiser through the Side-Out Foundation that raises funds for breast cancer awareness. The MACU Student Government Association partnered with the volleyball team for the event. Volleyball is back at home next Tuesday, October 13th when they take on SAC opponent John Brown University at 7 p.m. |
