5.5.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- Six Mid-America Christian University softball players picked up Sooner Athletic Conference honors. Kasey Gardner, Sarah Lankford and Courtney Kuebler were named second team All-Conference. Caitlyn Ulmer and Kacey Jones were honorable mention All-Conference and Kelcey Gabriel earned a gold glove. Kasey Gardner, a senior from Oklahoma City, played in all 57 games for the Lady Evangels this season, starting in 56 of them. She has been the starter for MACU behind the plate her entire four-year career. She ends her senior season batting .287 driving in 27 runs with five home runs. Junior Sarah Lankford is a native of Mesquite, Texas and came to MACU from Grayson County College. She led the team offensively batting .380, racking up 32 RBI's. She had six home runs and a team high 57 hits. Lankford started at first base for the Lady Evangels. Courtney Kuebler is a junior from Richardson, Texas. She also spent her fist two seasons at Grayson County College. As the Lady Evangels third baseman she hit .333 driving in 26 runs, posting five home runs. Junior pitcher Caitlyn Ulmer played in 44 games, starting 38 of them. The Pottsboro, Texas native came to MACU from Grayson County College. While pitching for the Lady Evangels she had an earned run average of 4.33 with an 11-14-1 record. She had 29 appearances in the circle, starting 26 of them. Ulmer had 109 strikeouts on the year. She ended the season batting .303 with three home runs. She had 18 RBI's. Outfielder Kasey Jones is a sophomore from Mounds, Oklahoma. She played in 53 games, starting in 48 of them. As the lead off hitting she batted .336 with 12 runs batted in. Junior Kelcey Gabriel is a junior from Katy, Texas. This is the first year for the Sooner Athletic Conference gold glove team with only ten players receiving the honor. Gabriel came to MACU this season from Western Oklahoma Junior College and was a spark in the Lady Evangels offense with a .338 batting average. She hit six home runs on the year, driving in 33 runs. |
