Coming off the most successful season in MACU softball history, Jerald Lewis enters his third season as head coach of the women's softball program. In 2007, Lewis led the Lady Evangels to a school record for wins and ranks as the winningest coach in the eight year history of the softball program. Lewis' career at MACU began in 2000 as Men's Resident Director. Following six seasons in which the program struggled, the university turned to Lewis to revive softball at MACU. With a short recruiting period, Lewis won three games in his first season in 2006. Following that season, Lewis brought in a solid recruiting class and it showed on the field. The Lady Evangels set a school record in 2007 with seven wins. The momentum of the 2007 season carried into the off-season as Lewis brought in the deepest recruiting class in the program's history heading into the 2008 season. Realizing the success of the softball program in Lewis' two seasons at the helm, he was awarded the position on a permanent basis and resigned as Men's Resident Director. Lewis leads the softball program as an accomplished athlete himself. Upon graduation from Tate High in Pennsacola, Flor., Lewis attended Mississippi College on a cross country scholarship. Feeling called by the Lord, Lewis transferred to MACU and was a member of the 1993 baseball team playing left field. Following the season, Lewis was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the 1993 season. Lewis graduated from MACU with a B.S. in Management and Ethics. Prior to coming to MACU, Lewis served as Youth Pastor at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City. Lewis and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Newcastle with their son, Joshua (6). |
