10.21.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University men's and women's soccer teams could not get past Sooner Athletic Conference opponent John Brown University on Wednesday afternoon at Evangel Field. The men were defeated 3-0 followed by the women who lost 4-0.

JBU has an overall record of 10-5-1 and is 4-2-1 in the conference standings. The Golden Eagles used three goals in the first half of play to cruise past the Evangels.

John Brown put their first goal in the net in the eighth minute of play. Caleb Theimer found the back of the net off a corner kick served by Josh Baldwin.

In the 20th minute Justin Thompson was able to break through the MACU defense a score the Golden Eagles second goal of the afternoon.

Just three minutes later Gabriel Duarte buried a penalty kick to round out the scoring in the men's game.

The Evangels had five shots on goal and held possession in the Golden Eagles final third for much of the match but were unable to generate a goal.

Austin Custar takes the loss in goal with three saves, allowing three goals.

The loss gives MACU a 7-4 overall record, 1-3 in the SAC.

The MACU women's soccer team had quality possession against JBU, bet sell to their SAC opponent 4-0. The Lady Evangels failed to finish several opportunities on offense. Four different player scored for JBU in the match on Wednesday afternoon.

JBU, currently 9-5 overall, is leading the pack in the SAC with a 6-1 record. They suffered a 1-0 loss to Oklahoma City University on October 10th.

JBU held a 2-0 lead going into intermission. Robyn Cluka put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard in the 28th minute followed by Jodi Knack in the 42nd minute.

Amanda Reed put away an insurance goal in the 61st minute and Ashely Cecil sealed the deal for JBU with less than 30 seconds to play.

Despite the 4-0 loss the Lady Evangels were able to post four shots on goal.

Jamie Thatcher takes the loss in goal with four saves, giving up four goals.

The loss drops the Lady Evangels to 5-6-1 overall with a 1-3-1 record in conference play.

MACU soccer is back in action at Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, October 24th with the women kicking off at 5 p.m. followed by the men at 7 p.m.
