10.27.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- Mid-America Christian University freshman Kassie Shivers scored two goals, which led the Lady Evangels past Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Rogers State University with a final score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Evangel Field. With the victory, MACU improves to 6-7-1 overall with 2-4-1 SAC record. The loss gives RSU 11-5 overall record and they are now 4-4 in the conference standings. Prior to taking on MACU, the Lady Hillcats defeated Oklahoma Christian 2-1. The Lady Evangels travel to OC this Thursday, October 29th. The Lady Hillcats took a 1-0 lead when junior forward Kimmia Parker broke through the MACU defense, slotting the ball past goalkeeper, Jamie Thatcher in the 25th minute of play. Freshman Kassie Shivers evened up the score ten minutes later. The ball was bouncing around a swarm of people in the box until Shivers got hold of it, burying the ball in the back of the net. The score remained knotted going into intermission. MACU took the lead in the 61st minute of play with Shivers netting her eighth goal of the season. Sophomore Nicole Farquhar served a corner kick into the box; Shivers headed the ball into the net, making it a 2-1 game. The Lady Hillcats had a few good opportunities at the end of the match but MACU was able to hold on, getting a crucial conference victory. "I'm really proud of the way our girls played today," Bice said. "They played hard and did not give up. This is a good win for our team and one of our best performances this season." Jamie Thatcher gets the win in goal with five saves, allowing one goal. The Lady Evangels return to the pitch on Thursday, October 29th at Oklahoma Christian University. The game is set to kick-off at 6 p.m. |
