11.2.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Lady Evangels started their season off on the right foot, defeating Southwestern Assemblies of God University 67-64 at the Gaulke Activity Center on Monday evening.

Junior Brittany Johnson led the way for the Lady Evangels with her first double-double of the season. She had a team high 14 points and 10 rebounds.

MACU put the first points on the board with a three -point bucket from junior Melissa Aguilar. The Lady Evangels jumped out to an eight point lead (11-3) in the first half. The Lady Lions rallied, taking MACU's lead down to three points (14-11).

Three consecutive three-pointers and a bonus shot made by Egidija Busaite gave MACU an eight point edge (24-16)

The Lady Evangels took a seven point lead into the locker room at intermission. At the half MACU had 13 turnovers compared to the Lady Lions who had 10 turnovers. Busaite scored all 13 of her points in the first half.

Just three minutes into the second half MACU extended their lead to 13 points (45-32).

A three-pointer by Karina Trindade gave MACU a 16 point advantage (54-38) with just under 12 minutes to play.

The Lady Lions battled their way back into the game, falling short.

The Lady Evangels were plagued with turnovers, committing 23. They shot 48 percent from the field and 56 percent from the free-throw line.

MACU is back in action at home on Thursday, November 4th at 5 p.m., taking on Southwestern College.
