Feb. 5, 2010 2.5.10 - Claremore, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to knock off Sooner Athletic Conference opponent No. 25 Rogers State University 54-49 at the Claremore Expo Center on Thursday evening. The Lady Evangels (12-11, 5-10) hit seven free throws in the last two minutes of the game to seal the win over RSU (16-6, 8-6). For the game MACU shot 68 percent from the free throw line. With 2:01 to play in the game the score was knotted for the fifth time (45-45). April Hale knocked down two free throws to take the lead. Along with the shots made by Hale, Michelle Hardimon added three free throws while Melissa Aguilar sunk two. The Lady Evangels out-scored the Hillcats 9-4 in the final minutes. In the last two minutes of the game, Nathalia Araujo contributed the only bucket from the field. RSU's led by as many as 10 points in the first half but the Lady Evangels cut their lead to just two points at intermission. MACU held the Lady Hillcats to shooting 30 percent from the field and they were 0-9 from three-point range. They shot 68 percent from the free throw line. Although the Lady Evangels shot 30 percent from the field, they shot 41 percent from behind the arc and edged out RSU on the boards 41-40. Hale led the team in scoring with 13 points followed by Hardimon contributing 11 points. MACU is back at home on Saturday, February 6th at 6 p.m. against SAC opponent John Brown University. |
