1.17.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels struggled on defense and fell to the Wayland Baptist University Flying Queens Thursday, Jan. 17. The Flying Queens conquered the Lady Evangels 77-62.

"We struggled on defense all night," Head Coach Josh Lind said. "We failed to get in a rhythm offensively and defensively."

WBU shot 62% from the field in the second half, and 50% for the game. The Flying Queens out rebounded the Lady Evangels 42-27, which included 16 WBU offensive rebounds.

The beginning of the first half was an offensive struggle for both teams. The Lady Evangels picked up their first and only lead in the game at the 17:40 mark. WBU tied the game three minutes later and never trailed.

The Flying Queens went on a 22-4 run in a span of ten minutes. The Lady Evangels answered the WBU run, going on a 16-6 run to close out the first half.

MACU went into the locker room down 26-22 at halftime.

WBU opened the second half on a 15-3 run and stretched its lead 41-25 at the 16:07 mark. MACU responded and went on a 22-13 and closed the gap 54-47 with 9:50 remaining in the game.

The Lady Evangels would get no closer, as they gave up another big WBU run.

Freshman April Hale led the Lady Evangels with 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior Courtney Sorrels contributed 15 points.

The Lady Evangels fall to 4-12, and 1-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

MACU will take on Lubbock Christian University at home Saturday, Jan. 19. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
