10.27.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- Freshman midfielder Daniel Gallegos knocked in the game winning goal in overtime, allowing the Mid-America Christian University men's soccer team to upset Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Rogers State University 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Evangel Field. The win gives the Evangels an 8-5 overall record with 2-4 conference record. The loss drops the Hillcats to 12-4-1 and 4-3-1 in conference play. Both teams had scoring opportunities throughout the game but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net, sending the match into overtime. The overtime lasted less than one minute with MACU capitalizing on their scoring opportunity. Sophomore Jeremiah Huff crossed the ball into the box from the left flank. The ball landed at the feet of Brice Jantz who first-timed the ball to Gallegos who buried the ball past the keeper, giving the Evangels their second SAC victory of the season. MACU goalkeeper Austin Custar had many key saves for the Evangels that kept them in the game. He earned the shut-out victory with six saves on the afternoon. The Evangels continue conference play on Thursday, October 29th when they travel to Oklahoma Christian at 8 p.m. |
