10.24.09 - Bethany, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Southern Nazarene University on Saturday evening at Harmon Field. The loss drops the Evangels to 1-5 in the conference with a 7-5 overall record. With the win, the Crimson Storm improves to 5-1 in the SAC with a 7-4-2 overall record. SNU got an early lead in the first half with goals being scored by Eric Ouedraogo and Alwin Gherghescu. Ouedraogo put SNU on the board in the 32nd minute with Gherghescu getting the assist. Just before halftime, Gherghescu put away a goal of his own, giving the Storm to a 2-0 lead heading into intermission. Just after halftime Mike Bray added to the Storm lead, scoring his 10th goal of the year in the 51st minute. Ouedraogo got his second goal of the game just after Bray in the 59th minute. The Evangels got on the board in the 66th minute with Jeremiah Huff scored his third goal this season. With just five minutes remaining in regulation the Storm rounded out their scoring with a goal from Thierry Gakire, assisted by Alwin Gherghescu and Eric Ouedraogo. SNU pounded the goal with 21 shots, 10 of them were on goal. The Evangels had one shot on goal, which gave MACU their lone goal of the match. Austin Custar takes the loss for the Evangels in goal with five saves, giving up five goals. The Evangels are back in action at home Tuesday, October 27th at 3 p.m. against conference opponent Rogers State University. |
