9.22.09 - Panama City, Fla.-The Mid-America Christian University golf team received a bid to the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Championship. This is the second straight season the Evangels have earned a bid to the national tournament. The men's golf championship will be held October 12-13, 2009 at Edgewater Beach Resort, Hombre Golf Course, Panama City, Florida. The top nine teams from the 2008 NCCAA National Championship automatically qualified for the 2009 championship. MACU finished 15th last year, one place above their ranking going into the tournament. This year 24 teams submitted scores for the final nine spots. MACU qualified with a team average of 303 which is eight strokes better than one year ago. This will be the first 56-hole tournament the Evangels have played this season. On Monday, October 12th they will play 36 holes and finish on Tuesday, playing 18 holes. MACU Golf Coach, Markus Crandall, used the individual averages from the eight competitive rounds the Evangels played this fall to decide who will represent MACU at the tournament. Karl Griffith will lead the way for the Evangels. He carded an overall fall average of 74.1. Matt Costilow and Cody Mosley will be playing in their first NCCAA Championship. Costilow qualified with a 76.3 and Mosley posted a 77. James Wiginton qualifies with a 77.1. Andrew Shepard will round out the team as the lone senior accompanied by four sophomores. He fired an 77.5 average this fall. |
