10/3/07 - GUYMON, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University men's golf team shot a team record 603 in route to a fifth place finish in the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Invitational in Guymon, Oklahoma. The Evangels were paced by four first round scores in the seventies including Bryce Lawrence with a team leading 77, Ryan McCabe (78), Tyler Montgomery (78) and Kelly Miller (78). The Evangels opening round team score was 311 which was good enough for eighth place after the first day. "We had a good round," Coach Josh Lind said. "It was the first time in school history that we did not report an individual score over 80." The course conditions improved for the second day as did the scoring. Dustin Nelson led all Evangels in the second round with a 69. McCabe contributed a 73, while Montgomery and Lawrence both shot 75. The Evangels set a team record by posting a 292 team score and leaped to fifth place. "We have never scored under 300 in a tournament," Coach Lind said. "This was an excellent week for our golf program." The Evangels final tournament of the season will be October 8 and 9 as they travel to Panama City, Florida to play in the NCCAA Division I National Tournament.
