9/5/07 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels opened the fall golf season with a fifth place finish in the Mid-America Christian University Invitational held September 3 and 4 at Silverhorn Golf Club in Oklahoma City.

Ryan McCabe shot a 152 over two rounds to lead the Evangels. As a team, MACU shot a first round 324 and a second round 309 to finish with a two day total of 635.

"I was a little disappointed that we did not finish higher, but we set a school record for lowest round with a 309," Coach Josh Lind said. "We had a rough first round, but I was pleased with the way we responded in the second round."

The Evangels struggled in the first round with only one golfer scoring under 80, but responded in the second round with three golfers breaking 80. McCabe bounced back from a tough first round in which he shot an 80, coming back strong in the second round with a 72. McCabe placed seventh in the tournament.

"I was impressed with the way Ryan kept his composure and had a good second round," Lind stated.

Bryce Lawerence was second in individual scoring shooting a 79 and 80 for a total of 159.

The Evangels will travel to Arkansas on September 10 to participate in the Central Baptist College Invitational.
