9.10.09 - Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University golf team maintained its position in the team standings through Wednesday's final round at the Southwest Christian University Invitational, finishing in fourth place at Hefner Golf Course. The Evangels, who stood in fourth place through 18 holes, posted a 303 team score on the final day to finish with a 36-hole total of 594. MACU tied with Sterling College and came in six shots ahead of Southwest Christian. Southern Nazarene claimed the title, cruising to a 15-under 553 total to finish five shots clear of Central Baptist College. CBC's Cameron Angerman captured the top individual honor carding a 67 which was seven under par. He finished the tournament with a 135. Leading the way individually for the Evangels was sophomore Karl Griffith with a four-over 72. His two day total was 146 which was good enough for an 11th place tie. Sophomore Matt Costilow posted the squad's second-best two-day total with a 148, shooting a 76, tying for 21st place. Freshman Jacob McElhaney carded an 78 to come in tied for 24th with a two-day total of 149. Sophomore James Wigington posted a 77 and senior Andrew Sheppard carded a 79, rounding out the starting five with a 153 total to tie for 35th place. Cody Mosley posted a 75 to tie for 41st with an overall score of 154. Matt Howard carded an 83 and tied for 53rd followed by Weston Wright who improved by 15 strokes on the final day carding a 76 good for 64th. The Evangels will continue their fall slate on September 14th when they travel to McPherson, Kansas for the Central Christian College Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course. |
