2.6.10 - Oklahoma City, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University men's basketball team was unable to sweep the series with Sooner Athletic Conference opponent John Brown University, losing 85-78 on Thursday evening at the Gaulke Activity Center. With the loss MACU falls to 12-12 on the year with an 8-8 SAC record. JBU improves to 17-7 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Evangels got a slow start with the Golden Eagles taking a 20-4 lead in the first seven minutes of play. MACU battled back using a 25-9 run to tie the score (29-29) with 7:25 to play before intermission. The Evangels capped off the run with Nathan Pratt making a lay up and drawing the foul. He knotted the score with his made free throw attempt. The teams traded buckets for the remainder of the half. A three-pointer by E.J. McWoods gave JBU a four point advantage at the break (45-41). The Evangels never gained the lead in the second half. Josh Ball opened the second half with a lay up (45-43) which was as close as MACU would get to the lead. With 15:43 to play in the game junior George Haynes gave the Evangels some momentum with a dunk to bring MACU within five points of the lead (59-52). But the Golden Eagels then used an 11-4 run to take a double-digit lead (68-56). Darius Gregory led the Evangels with 15 points and seven rebounds. Cameron Langster added 12 points and Charlie Shorter contributed 11 points. MACU shot 85 percent from the free throw line, 42 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc. JBU was led by Davaughn Jackson with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent from the field, 47 percent from three-point range and 79 percent from the line. MACU will travel to Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday, February 11th at 8 p.m. |
