At MACU Derek Winston appeared in 34 of 35 games for MACU as a junior. He was third on the team in three-pointers made with 33 and averaged 5.1 points per game. Before MACU Prior to attending MACU, Winston spent his freshman season at Lon Morris Junior College and his sophomore season at Murray State University. At Murray State, Winston received All-Conference honors scoring 15 points per game along with five rebounds and three assists per game. High School Winston lettered in basketball four years while playing for Head Coach Mike Anderson at Ada High School. He was a two-time conference player of the year at point guard. His senior season, Winston averaged 24 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game while being named Area Player of the Year. He also participated in the McDonald's and Faith Seven All-State games. Winston off the Court When not shooting from behind the arc, Winston enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys. He lists Michael Jordan as his favorite athlete and goes by the nickname "D.W." When asked why he chose MACU, Winston stated, "It was God's choice." He attends St. James Church of God in Christ and his favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13. |
