[Men's Soccer] 6th Annual MACU Soccer Camp set for June 18-21

OKLAHOMA CITY. -- The Mid-America Christian Soccer program is excited to announce that the 5th annual MACU Soccer Camp will held from June 13-17.

The camp is designed for ages 5-16 and will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost will be $90 before June 5^th and $100 after. It will be located on the MACU Soccer Field at Mid-America Christian University.

The players will train in a fun and enjoyable environment surrounded by talented college players and coaches.

All campers will also receive a free T-shirt and each player should bring a ball and wear shin guards.

"We are excited about our camp and are really looking forward to the advanced camp option again this year, which will continue to give campers more opportunities than ever before," said MACU head men's and women's soccer co-head coach Zach Bice.

[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball inks Dallas, Texas native Darius Revels for 2012-13 campaign

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Men's Basketball program has added another piece to its recruiting class with the signing of incoming freshman Darius Revels for the upcoming 2012-13 season.

Revels is a 6-0 point guard that competed for the J.J. Pierce High School Mustangs out of Richardson, Texas.

At J.J. Pierce, Revels earned First-Team All-District honors and was selected as the team MVP.

"Darius is an athletic guard who has the ability to score and can really shoot the basketball," MACU Assistant Coach Charles Goar said. "He has played the point guard and shooting guard positions which will give us a combo guard that can play either position.

"He is also a quality young man with high character and will be an asset to both the Men's Basketball program and to our campus community here at MACU. We are excited about what he will bring to the MACU Men's Basketball program."

A native of Dallas, Texas, he is the son of Naomi Revels and Tony Smith. He plans to major in Business at MACU.

[Baseball] Evangels' Season comes to an end with 7-0 loss to Colorado Christian at NCCAA Central Regional Tourney

Lakewood, Colo. -- Spencer Heath tossed seven shutout innings to lead the Colorado Christian University Cougars to a 7-0 win over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels, ending the Evangels' season Thursday afternoon (May 10) at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament at the Coca-Cola All-Star Park in Lakewood, Colo.

Heath limited the Evangels to only two hits and struck out two in his seven innings of work.

Ryan Clark gave Heath all the offensive backing he needed with a 2-of-2 effort at the plate and two RBI, with a two-run homer in the fourth inning that provided the Cougars their seven-run margin of victory.

The Cougars had jumped on the Evangels early as Joey Younkerman tripled and scored in a two-run second and then added three more in the third.

Seniors Jon Jon Lemos and Kevin Parsons, playing in their final game for MACU, each collected a hit in the game.

Ryan Kerbel contributed to the Cougars' offensive attack by going 2-of-3 with a run driven in.

The Evangels conclude a season that featured a win over then No. 11-ranked Lubbock Christian University earlier this year and also senior Luis Martinez earning a second-team All-Sooner Athletic Conference nod after leading the Evangels in virtually every offensive category.

[Baseball] Evangels take down Central Baptist 9-5 to stay alive in NCCAA Central Regional Tournament

Lakewood, Colo. -- The Mid-America Christian Evangels lived to fight another day with a 9-5 victory over the Central Baptist College Mustangs in an elimination game Thursday afternoon (May 10) at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament at Coca-Cola All-Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. The Evangels will now play tournament host Colorado Christian later today, who fell to top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan 5-4 on a walk off double earlier in the day.

MACU took a commanding 9-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh as Rathbun had blanked the Mustangs through the first six frames. But CBC made things interesting by scoring five times, beginning with a solo homer by Tim Watson.

After a two-run double by AJ Allen brought the Mustangs to within four runs and a single by Blake Dixon brought the tying run to the on-deck circle, Ryan Rathbun finished off the complete game win by inducing a fielder's choice groundout to end the game.

The Evangels got on the board early and took charge by scoring in five straight innings. The barrage started on a sacrifice fly by Trent Daniels in the second and MACU added two more in the third on a two-run single by Kory Palmer.

An RBI triple by Shane Brinker made it 4-0 in the fourth and three more tallies in the fifth made it a seven-run bulge. A solo homer by Martinez started the scoring and an RBI single by Daniels scored Palmer to make it a six-run game. Dustin Carlsward then came in to pinch run for Daniels, stole second and scored off an error to make it 7-0.

An RBI single by Joe Moore and a sacrifice fly by Palmer extended the lead to nine runs in the sixth.

[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Participates in Christian Service Project at Ronald McDonald's House

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Men's Basketball team recentlyparticipated in a Christian service project at the Ronald McDonald's House in OKC at the end of the semester.

The MACU student-athletes performed gardening work and helped in the overall beautifying of the place.

"It's an honor for our program to participate in such a great and worthy cause," MACU Assistant Coach Charles Goar said.

The Ronald McDonald's House serves as a bed and breakfast for families who are forced to stay out of town while their children are in the hospital.

[Baseball] Top-Seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan rallies to defeat Evangels 9-6 in opening game of NCCAA Central Regional Tournament

Lakewood, Colo. -- Just three outs away from an opening round victory in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament, the Mid-America Christian University Evangels couldn't close the deal and fell 9-6 to the top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles Wednesday afternoon (May 9) at Coca-Cola All-Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. The Evangels will try to stay alive tomorrow afternoon (May 10) at 2 p.m. (CST) against the loser of Central Baptist and Colorado Christian.

The Evangels led 6-3 heading into the seventh inning, but a leadoff single by pinch hitter Giancarlo Sironi and an error put runners on second and third with no outs.

Jose Ruiz then followed that with an RBI single that chased Cory Ford to second.

Ruiz and Ford would then plate the tying runs on a combination of three wild pitches to send the game into extra innings.

The Evangels threatened in the top of the eighth by loading the bases with one out, but Justin Rivera fouled out into a double play to end the inning.

After the Evangels appeared to be out of a jam when Trent Daniels threw out Nick Palese at third for the second out of the bottom of the eighth, four straight walks chased home the go-ahead run and then a two-run single by Shane Elliott gave the Eagles a pair of valuable insurance runs.

Earlier, Elliott had put the Eagles on top early with a two-run shot to fuel a three-run first inning.

Jon Jon Lemos answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer of his own that scored Luis Martinez to make it a one-run game.

The Evangels then jumped on top with three runs in the second on RBI singles by Joe Moore, Martinez and Kory Palmer.

The score remained 5-3 until Martinez nailed a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the sixth that gave MACU a three-run advantage.

Martinez fueled the Evangels' offensive attack with a 3-of-4 effort at the plate and two RBI. Shane Brinker also collected two hits on the day.

Colby Crawford went seven innings for the Evangels, giving up six runs but only two earned and striking out five.

Elliott drove in four runs to lead the Eagles, while Thomas Kellner pitched a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen to pick up the win.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Men's Basketball squad has signed Tulsa, Okla. product Yuri Hager for the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.

Hager will bring big game experience to MACU, as he was the starting center for the Union High School Redskins out of Tulsa, Okla. and helped them to an undefeated season and the 6A State Championship. The undefeated season that Hager and the Redskins completed was the first in 6A Oklahoma since the state added a classification in 1996.

He was a key component in the Redskins' title run, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds in the 37-36 victory in the championship game over defending champion Edmond Memorial HS. Overall, Hager scored 32 points and grabbed a team-best 26 boards in the tourney.

MACU Assistant Men's Basketball coach Charles Goar, who was instrumental in the recruitment of Hager, is excited about what the 6-8 post player will bring to the interior next season.

"Yuri is a great signing for MACU because of his ability to play around the basket and rebound," Goar said. "He is a smart player and is also a great passer for an inside player. Yuri will bring a winning mentality to our program and is a great student. He is a young man with high character and will not only be an asset for our Men's Basketball team but will be great for our campus."

[Baseball] Evangels set to begin action at the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament Tomorrow Afternoon

Lakewood, Colo. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels will begin play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament tomorrow afternoon (May 9) as the fourth seed and take on the top-seed Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CST) at the Coca-Cola All-Star Park in Lakewood, Colo.

This will be the third meeting between the two schools, with each school winning at home earlier this season. The Evangels bested the Eagles 9-5 at James Curtis Field, while OKWU rebounded and rallied to win the second game 10-9 in Bartlesville, Okla.

[Men's Golf] Golf inks Cameron Pierce for upcoming season

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Mid-America Christian University golf team has signed Cameron Pierce to the squad for next season.

Pierce, a native of Oklahoma City, attended Southmoore HS in Moore, Okla. and is the son of Rick and Deana Pierce.

"Cameron is a player who is working on his game constantly," MACU head coach Roman Owen said. "His work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our program. It will be great to be around that type of effort every day."

OKLAHOMA CITY - Mid-America Christian University head golf coach Roman Owen has announced the signing of Oklahoma City native Daniel Copeland to the program next season.

Copeland played for the Community Christian School Royals and won three Tri-State championships, along with a pair of All-State titles in 2010 & 2012 and a State championship in 2009.

He also earned All-State honors all four years at Community Christian.

"I am very excited to have Daniel join our program. He is a very talented player who will help our team take the next step. He has the chance to very good if he works hard on his game every day."

He is the son of Angie and Scott Copeland and plans on majoring in Math and Business at MACU.

[Women's Basketball] Women's Basketball adds guard Chelsea Alldredge for 2012-13 season

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University women's basketball has signed guard Chelsea Alldredge for the upcoming 2011-12 campaign, head coach Roman Owen has announced.

The 5'9 native of Mabank, Texas competed at NCAA D-II Cameron University prior to coming to MACU, where she helped CU advance to the Lone Star Conference tournament.

Alldredge earned All-District honors at Mabank HS and was named a team captain. She was also a solid student-athlete, earning a spot on the "A" Honor Roll.

"We are very excited to have a kid that has prepared at the D2 level everyday," Owen said. "Chelsea is a young lady who will help our program with the strong work ethic she has."

She is the daughter of Richard and Kay Alldredge and plans to major in Education at MACU.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Senior Ashlee Dodson has been named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference softball team with a second-team nod, while senior Ashtin Simeroth and sophomore Amber Tinney each received honorable-mention recognition, the league announced last night (May 6).

Dodson was a force in the Lady Evangels' lineup this season, leading the squad in hitting(.350), runs (34), hits (55), doubles (18), triples (2), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.586), on-base percentage (.400) and stolen bases (10). She has also stifled the opposing running game behind the plate, throwing out nearly 54 percent (15-of-28) of potential base stealers. Even though she is listed as a junior on the roster, Dodson is set to graduate early and will not return next season.

Simeroth rode a late season hot streak to raise her batting average for the season to .296, which ranks second on the team. She has driven in 20 runs on the season and is also second on the team in hits (45) and on-base percentage (.335), along with 11 doubles and 21 runs scored.

Tinney was the Lady Evangels' ace on the mound this season, ranking fifth in the SAC with 163 1/3 innings pitched. She also led the staff in wins (9), complete games (19) and shutouts (3) while also recording one save.

The trio helped the Lady Evangels to a third-place finish at the recent National Christian College Athletic (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament and also win their second most conference games (5) since joining the NAIA in 2009.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University senior Luis Martinez has been named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference squad as a second-team selection, the league announced last night (May 6). Also, senior Justin Rivera earned a Rawlings SAC Gold Glove award as a right fielder.

Martinez has been the Evangels' offensive catalyst this season, leading the team in batting average (.369), runs (32), hits (55), slugging percentage (.544), on-base percentage (.429) and doubles (15). He is also second in RBI (25) and tied for second in homers (3).

Rivera was flawless in right field this season, recording 38 putouts along with six assists with no errors.

The duo is now helping the Evangels gear up to play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament, beginning next Wednesday (May 9) at Coca-Cola All-Star park in Lakewood, Colo, just one mile from the Colorado Christian University campus.

MACU will begin action in the tourney at 3 p.m. (CST) against top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University senior shortstop Luis Martinez has been named to the First-Team Capitol One Academic All-District VII squad, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

By virtue of his first-team nod, Martinez automatically advances to the Capitol One Academic All-America team ballot, in which first-team, second-team and third-team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.

Martinez, a native of San Diego, Calif., has maintained a 3.51 grade-point-average with a major in Business Administration.

On the diamond, Martinez has been an offensive force this season, leading the Evangels in batting average (.369), runs (32), hits (55), slugging percentage (.544), on-base percentage (.429) and doubles (15). He is also second in RBI (25) and tied for second in homers (3).

Martinez and the Evangels are now gearing up to play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament, beginning next Wednesday (May 9) at All-Star park in Lakewood, Colo, just one mile from the Colorado Christian University campus.
