Roman Owen
Head Coach - 2nd Season
Romen Owen is in his second season leading both the Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels women's basketball team and the men's golf squad.
In his first tournament at the helm, Owen guided the Evangels' golf program to their lowest round in school history, a 286 at the Southwestern Christian University Fall Collegiate Golf Tournament. He also led the Evangels to three other top five finishes, including a second-place showing at the Bethany College Swede Invitational.
On the basketball court, Owen led the Lady Evangels to their most conference wins (8) since joining the Sooner Athletic Conference and their first NCCAA Central Regional title since 2007. Owen then coached the Lady Evangels to a fifth-place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament, losing only an overtime heartbreaker to eventual national champ Bethel College in the opening game of the tourney. Owen's defensive philosophy also led the Lady Evangels holding opponents to their lowest point total (64.8 ppg) since joining the NAIA.
Owen arrives at MACU after spending the past two seasons as assistant men's basketball coach at Oklahoma City University. While at OCU, Owen worked under head coach Kevin Morrisey and helped lead the Stars to a 32-26 record and an appearance at the NAIA National Tournament in 2010. He assisted in all aspects of the men's basketball program including recruiting, scouting, offensive and defensive preparations, strength and conditioning training, academic success and game day set up.
Prior to coaching at OCU, Owen had a successful playing career at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla. As a senior in 2008, he was a recipient of the Pete Maravich Award, which is presented annually to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Player of the Year. He was a three-time NCCAA All-American and an NCCAA Academic All-American. He is currently the all-time leading scorer at SCU with 2,802 career points.
Owen graduated from Southwestern Christian University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. He also holds a master's degree in physical education from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Owen and his wife, Natalie, reside in Oklahoma City.
