Fort Worth, Texas -- The Mid-American Christian Lady Evangels won two of three matches in the final day of the Wesleyan Hughes Volleyball Classic in Fort Worth, Texas.  The Lady Evangels won the first two matches of the day against Loyola (La.) and Southwestern Assemblies of God, but lost to Texas Wesleyan in the last match of the night.                                                                                                                                                        
The first match of the day saw the Lady Evangels rally from two sets to one down to knock off the Loyola (La.) Wolfpack in five sets. 
 
The Lady Evangels won the fourth set 25-22 and then the fifth 15-9.  The fifth set was knotted at 8-8 when Becca Anderson and Danielle Betts combined for four kills to lead a 6-0 spurt as MACU pulled away. 
 
Chris Smith led the Lady Evangels' offensive attack with 26 kills, while Anderson contributed 12.
 
MACU then split the first four sets with the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lady Lions before winning the deciding fifth set 15-5. 
 
Smith again led the Lady Evangels' charge with four kills that came during a 6-0 spurt that turned a slim 5-4 advantage into a 11-4 cushion. 
 
The Lady Evangels closed out the match by scoring four of the last five points. 
 
In the nightcap, the Lady Evangels fell to the tournament host Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams by a score of 3-1. 
 
The Lady Rams won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19 but the Lady Evangels rebounded to a 25-19 win in the third set. 
 
But the Lady Rams dominated the fourth set 25-13 to close out the victory. 
 
Anderson and Smith each paced the Lady Evangels with nine kills each. 
 
MACU will next play a pair of matches in Winfield, Kan. beginning with a matchup against Ottawa University on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 4) at 1 p.m.
 
The Lady Evangels will then turn around and play host Southwestern (Kan.) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
