Fort Worth, Texas -- The Mid-American Christian Lady Evangels kicked off the 2010 campaign by splitting a pair of matches at the Wesleyan Hughes Volleyball Classic in Fort Worth, Texas.  The Lady Evangels begin the day by losing in three sets to eighth-ranked UT-Brownsville, but rebounded nicely to knock off the Brenau Tigers 3-1.
The Lady Evangels got off to a good start against the Tigers in the first set, opening an 8 -3 lead.  When the Tigers fought back to within 10-9, the Lady Evangels pulled out to a 22-13 advantage on the strength of a pair of kills by Chris Smith.

Leading 23-18, the Lady Evangels scored the final two points of the set to jump ahead in the match.

The second set proved to be tighter, but MACU grabbed the lead for good by scoring three straight points to go ahead 10-8.

The Lady Evangels were clinging to a 22-21 advantage when a kill by Kathryn Chapman and two straight service errors gave the set to MACU.

The third set was competitive as well as the Lady Evangels were on top for much of the time but a four-point run by the Tigers turned a two-point 18-16 lead into a two-point deficit.

It was tied at 21-21 when the Tigers produced three kills and won the set 25-21.

The Lady Evangels controlled things early on in the fourth set by jumping out to a 16-6 lead.

But the Tigers refused to go quietly and reeled off 10 straight points to even the set.

A kill by Calle Solie then gave MACU the lead for good and with the Lady Evangels leading 24-21, Chapman ended the match with a kill.

As a team, the Lady Evangels had a .872 serving percentage and were led by Chris Smith's 10 kills, while Chapman had eight kills.

The first match of the day didn't go as well for the Lady Evangels, as they were beaten by the eighth ranked UT-Brownsville Scorpions 3-0 by scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-7.

Becca Anderson led the Lady Evangels with three kills.
