Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian Evangels and Huston-Tillotson Rams exchanged penalty kicks and eventually played to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon (Aug. 27).
Things remained scoreless through the duration of the first half before the Evangels got on the board five minutes into the second half.

Arturo Alcala got free on a breakaway at the 50:30 mark and was fouled by the goalie in the box to set up a penalty kick.  Alcala then banged the PK shot through the net for a 1-0 MACU lead.

The Evangels (0-1-1) kept the one-goal lead until the 63rd minute when Victor Colin got free inside and drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick for the Rams.

Colin's PK try was good also and tied the score at 1-1.

That would prove to be the last score of the match as both schools were shut out over the final 27 minutes of regulation and a pair of 10 minute overtime periods.

The Rams had a chance for a dramatic win in the waning seconds of the second overtime on a breakaway, but goalkeeper Austin Custar came in deep and made a save with five seconds left to preserve the tie for the Evangels.

The Evangels were out-shot 22-20 overall but held a 14-7 edge in shots-on-goal.

Alcala led MACU with six shots and four on-goal.

Custar recorded five saves in 110 minutes in the net.

Cesar Silva paced the Rams with seven shots, including five on-goal.

Aldo Rodriguez stopped 13 shots for the Rams.

The Evangels will next play a pair of games in Shreveport, La.  over Labor Day weekend, beginning with a matchup against Texas College on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 4) at 3 p.m.
