Oklahoma City, Okla. - Despite out-shooting the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions by a 26-9 count, the Mid-America Christian Evangels couldn't get over the hump and fell 3-1 in their 2010 opener Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 25).

The match was scoreless until the 27th minute when David Flores found Jonathan Segundo for a score at the 27:40 mark that put the Lions up 1-0.

It didn't take long for the Lions (1-1) to strike again as Flores then got into the scoring act himself at the 30:08 mark for a two-goal advantage.

The Evangels out-shot the Lions 15-6 in the opening half but couldn't crack the scoreboard until the 58th minute of the second period on a goal by Arturo Alcala that cut the Lion lead in half at 2-1.

MACU had plenty of scoring chances in the second half as well, enjoying a 11-3 shots advantage but couldn't convert again.

The Lions then put it out of reach as Segundo assisted on a goal by James Swearingin at the 85:16 mark to once again put the Lions up by two goals.

Brett Brown and Kyle Pezant each led the Evangels (0-1) with five shots each.

Austin Custar made three saves in the net for MACU, while Cesar Galvin stopped 11 shots for the Lions.

The Evangels will get right back at it on Friday afternoon (Aug. 27) by hosting Huston Tillotson at 4 p.m.
