OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University senior shortstop
Luis Martinez has been named to the First-Team Capitol One Academic All-District VII squad, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
By virtue of his first-team nod, Martinez automatically advances to the Capitol One Academic All-America team ballot, in which first-team, second-team and third-team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.
Martinez, a native of San Diego, Calif., has maintained a 3.51 grade-point-average with a major in Business Administration.
On the diamond, Martinez has been an offensive force this season, leading the Evangels in batting average (.369), runs (32), hits (55), slugging percentage (.544), on-base percentage (.429) and doubles (15). He is also second in RBI (25) and tied for second in homers (3).
Martinez and the Evangels are now gearing up to play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament, beginning next Wednesday (May 9) at All-Star park in Lakewood, Colo, just one mile from the Colorado Christian University campus.
