Lakewood, Colo. -- The defending central regional champion and fifth seeded Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels took a step toward defending that crown with a 68-56 victory over the fourth seeded Central Baptist Lady Mustangs in the quarterfinal round of the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Regional tournament Wednesday night (Mar. 7) in Lakewood, Colo. on the campus of Colorado Christian University.

Offense was hard to come by throughout as both teams shot under 30 percent for the game.

It was deadlocked at 29-29 at the half, but the Lady Evangels quickly took charge in the second stanza as consecutive threes by Kourtni Williams and Erica Jones gave MACU a double-digit lead of 45-35.

The Lady Evangels (11-18) then kept the Lady Mustangs at arms length from that point.

Nicole Wittman scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Evangels and Williams recorded 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Parris Price chipped in with 11 points.
Karli Kenley led the Lady Mustangs with 13 points, while Shelby Winkle added 11.  Kayla Gardner grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and Porchia Allen had 10 boards.

The Lady Evangels offset a 57-45 deficiency on the glass by forcing 22 turnovers and out-scoring the Lady Mustangs 24-13 off those giveaways.

MACU will play at tournament host and No. 1 seed Colorado Christian tomorrow night (Mar. 8) at 8 p.m. CST in the tournament semifinals.
