Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The No. 3-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars pulled away in the first half and coasted to a 115-52 win over the previously unbeaten Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night (Nov. 22) at the Gaulke Activity Center.
The Lady Evangels hung tough early as a shot by
Brittany Woodard made it 11-9 in favor of OCU at the 15:27 mark of the first half.
After
Kourtni Williams scored to make it 20-14, the Stars (2-0) outscored the Lady Evangels 21-4 over the next seven minutes to pull out to a 41-18 lead.
Erica Jones stopped the run with a three, but the Stars took complete control as consecutive buckets by Dietra Caldwell capped a 12-0 spurt that made it 53-21.
OCU went on to a 58-23 cushion at the break as the Lady Evangels were hurt by 28 turnovers in the opening half.
The Stars continued the onslaught by opening the second half on a 15-7 run as a three by Kayla MaKenzie gave OCU a commanding 43-point advantage at 73-30.
Williams led the Lady Evangels (5-1) with 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Woodard scored 11, while Williams and
Nicole Wittman each led MACU with six boards.
MaKenzie powered four Stars in double-figures with a game-high 27 points and hit 5-of-7 from long distance. Caldwell scored 24 and added a game-high nine assists. Tiffany Goldwire scored 21 and Taylor Booze added 11. The Stars had four players with at least four steals on the night.
The Lady Evangels will now take seven days off for the Thanksgiving Holiday and return to host Austin College next Tuesday night (Nov. 29) at 7:30 p.m.
